Project Aware Day Coral Grand Divers, Divers with rubbish on boat

Coral Grand Divers is a 100% Project Aware Dive Centre. What does this mean? We support this dedicated non-profit organisation with donations, help raising awareness by educating people and last but not least we regularly organise Project Aware Days. They can be anything related to protecting the ocean, but we decided to do a Beach and Reef Clean up for the

Project Aware Day on April 14th

After the Thai New Year celebrations, Sonkran, Sairee Beach seemed like a good place to start. As expected we filled bags with bottles, straws, cigarette butts and plastic. After a well deserved lunch-break a crew of 8 dedicated divers joined our afternoon dive trip to collect debris from 2 different dive sites. First heading to Lighthouse and then Twins, equipped with Project Aware mesh bags, our divers collected every piece of debris they came across. We were positively surprised by how little rubbish we found! Back on shore after a rewarding afternoon of diving, the only thing left to do was sorting through the rubbish, recording the data and ensure the correct disposal of waste. We would like to thank everyone who participated – you made a difference!

Do you want to get involved yourself? Contact us for more information regarding our next Project Aware Day and other future events.  If you are a certified diver, you can also directly sign up for an AWARE Specialty course. Everyone likes to scuba dive or snorkel in warm, clear water on a vibrant coral reef, yet many people know little about what they’re seeing or the importance of reef ecosystems. The AWARE courses help you appreciate the complexity of the underwater world and teach how you can help conserve these vital systems.

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”

5 Reasons you should scuba dive. Don't ask me why I dive - ask yourself why you don't.

Honestly, it had to be said. The question is not why people dive, it is why wouldn’t they? If you are already a scuba diver, you probably know what I am talking about. There is just nothing that compares to it, for a variety of reason. If you are not a scuba diver yet, see below our top

5 reasons why you should scuba dive:

1. Take your beach holiday to a new level

Do you enjoy spending your holiday in a tropical environment and relax on the beach? Maybe sometimes you get bored of doing the same thing day after day? Scuba diving can add some extra adventure to any beach holiday. Discover new underwater sceneries, species and maybe even wrecks while doing something active. Diving is also a great activity for the whole family, children form the age of 8 can start blowing bubbles underwater! Travelling alone? There is no better way to meet like-minded, adventurous people than by taking a PADI course.

2. Experience new sensations

Scuba diving is not only about seeing marine life, one of the most surprising things about being underwater is the complete weightlessness you feel. Move freely in all directions without the restriction of gravity you are used to feel. If there is anything that comes close to flying, diving is probably it. Another feeling that you just have to experience yourself is the complete silence once you are submerged in the big blue. Diving is not only exciting, it can also be very relaxing when you glide through the water, only hearing your breath.

3. You get to really see the world

5 Reasons you should scuba dive. 71 % for divers, 29% for everyone else

It’s funny how our planet is called Earth, although oceans cover 71% of it. If you really want to ‘see the world’, scuba diving gives you access to the 2/3 that you have been missing out on. The best thing? You don’t need a lot of time and no experience to get started. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience will introduce you to the underwater world in just one day.

4. Go to places you never thought you would

Once you discovered the amazing feeling of diving, you will plan your holidays in a completely different way. You search for new exciting places to dive, maybe even create your own scuba bucket list. Looking for ideas? Check out our this article featuring the 5 must-visit dive resorts for inspiration!

5. Keep travelling

This might be the best of the 5 reasons why you should scuba dive: you can keep travelling, sustaining yourself by doing what you love. Once you are a PADI Professional, you gain access to a worldwide database of job offers in the diving industry, the opportunities are endless! Live in exotic destinations, spend your days at the beach, on the boat and underwater, sharing your passion for the underwater world. To start a career in scuba diving is easier than you think, you can change your lifestyle completely in only 6 months.  Take the plunge!

Scuba diving is not just a sport or a leisure activity – it’s a lifestyle. If you have ever dived before, you will remember how the world changes once you emerge into the big blue. There is no gravity, you can move freely in all directions. It’s peacefully quiet and all you hear is your own breath. You can move weightless, effortless through the magical underwater world and observe some of the most amazing creatures on this planet. No wonder, that many people change the way of planning their holiday after completing their PADI Open Water course. As a diver you have access to the blue two-thirds of our planet, why would you not want to explore as many exciting destinations as possible? Or maybe you fall in love with Scuba Diving or a Scuba Diver so much that you decide to completely change your life.

Scuba Diver Lifestyle - Quote of Jacques-Yves Cousteau

Scuba Diver Lifestyle

Every year thousands of people decide to change their life by turning their passion into their job. While travelling the world you might come across many of us, embracing the Scuba Diver Lifestyle.

The above video may not be accurate for all scuba divers as there is many places to work & dive which are not tropical. However, for our lovely little island Koh Tao it describes the lifestyle perfectly. Here we only wear flip-flops or even no shoes at all. People on the street have sun bleached hair, uneven tans and the biggest worry of the day is what to eat for dinner. Nobody cares what clothes you are wearing, what college degree you may have or who your friends are. At the end of the day you can find people sitting on the beach, drinking a local beer and chatting about their dives and exchanging stories.

Koh Tao has a special vibe, which is difficult to put in words. There may be better diving in the world, or more beautiful beaches and better parties – but once you are here it will be difficult to leave.
